LIST OF VIRTUAL REALITY DEVICES GEARING UP FOR THE NEAR FUTURE

VIRTUAL REALITY GEARING UP FOR THE NEAR FUTURE
Off late the biggest thing in technology is virtual-reality and now some of the biggest heads in the tech industry are enhancing their headsets with the virtual-reality ring. Down is the list of it gearing up for the near future.
By now all know that virtual reality is almost on us. And the ones that are getting developed now are not like the VR that were cropping up some time in early 90’s, the heavy, poorly animated and constrictive ones.  The modern time VR are lighter and of course faster pumping out sort of fantastical 3D worlds which the younger generation of today are more involved into.
The fact is that most of the below mentioned devices are not going to hit the shelves until the end of 2015 or maybe the beginning of 2016, but reveled by their makers. Let’s take a tour of the VR headsets that are competing among themselves to take a chance to change the world the way it sees.

HTC VIVE:

HTC VIVE

HTC VIVE, tough prefixed with HTC is a joint venture of HTC hardware and Valve technology. The partnership is rather considered unlikely ended by giving out one of the most exciting virtual-reality device as of now. The Vive is a PC-gaming VR system that is ready to compete with the Oculus Rift. Ready to debut this year, the Vive would be revealed in two waves – a “developer edition” proposed for March and the consumer-ready version for the holidays.
This Vive by HTC is the company’s new multistage strategy planned to develop connected products in diverse categories that includes self home, fitness and VR, all to get completed by end of 2015. Though it is obvious for HTC to come up with lot of unexpected products down the lane, the most surprising part could be its VR headset and that too developed partnering with Valve. On the whole, Valve – one of the biggest players in gaming is also a serious partner with HTC. Ultimately, Vive’s unique controller and its room-sensing capability along with its Steam VR store, is sure to help the HTC Vive be the outstanding one among the existing VR products.

OCULUS RIFT:

OCULUS RIFT
Oculus and its vision of virtual reality were happening for years and is perhaps the most well-known example of what is potential in the space. Though there is still no retail version available, the developer kit version seems to give engrossing experience a further step. Oculus Rift getting an external camera that offers positional tracking is the highlight with which the users are allowed to wander around as far as the cable connected to the PC allows them to move.  There seems to be also some improvement with the Rift’s new eyewear. The device gets improved display resolution and Fresnel lenses that together give it a crisper and advanced fluid experience while the fold-down headphones of it make 3D positional sound thereby making it an auditory VR.

SONY PROJECT MORPHEUS:

SONY PROJECT MORPHEUS:
Sony’s venture into virtual reality is through a slick headset that bears a 5.7-inch OLED screen. According to Sony, now Morpheus emits double the refresh rate images than its 2014 one. With this the action gets controlled via PlayStation Camera and PlayStation Move controllers while even PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controller can be used in some cases.  But yes all these are for now only on demo with still no word uttered with regards to its availability and pricing. All what can be expected is that this headset gets its completion sometime in 2016.

SAMSUNG GEAR VR:

SAMSUNG GEAR VR
Samsung Gear VR can be boosted the one to give an exciting virtual-reality experience at present. The $199 priced gadget is by the way only limited to those who own a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 but with the need to plug into a game console or a PC being completely eliminated. With this Gear VR on, the head becomes the controller of action and care for a crowd of sensors. Also Note 4 can be paired with a Bluetooth gamepad for experiencing closer traditional gaming experience.
Let’s now get to know some of its Good’s and Bad’s along with its Bottom Line.
THE GOOD:
·        This can be considered the VR accessory that is relatively affordable.
·        When using a Note 4 as the VR’s screen and engine, a better-than-expected sense of interest gets created.
·        Though apps are limited they are all free.
·        Finally the important thing is that this particular device is actually available for retail now.
THE BAD:
·        It being compatible only with Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
·        Its app collection has mainly demos and quick mini games.
·        Its VR video resolution still remains rough than tablets and TVs.
  • It is unable to work with a complete PC-based Oculus software.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
On the whole this Gear VR Innovator Edition could be considered the cool and promising entry level device for all early adopters who are eagerly looking out to taste virtual reality affordably.

RAZER OSVR HACKER DEV KIT:

RAZER OSVR HACKER DEV KIT
This craze of virtual reality market has also triggered Razer, the PC game hardware manufacturer to enter the tussle with its own VR headset called the OSVR Hacker Dev Kit – an open-source, hackable one. Razer to squabble all of virtual reality under one open-source roof has got its OSVR or Open-Source Virtual Reality Consortium developed.
Razer with its OSVR Hacker Dev Kit is hoping to democratize virtual reality a bit. This also costing $199 is designed to combine with a phone or a PC along with the option to add controllers to it and getting 3D-print of user parts. The OSVR in a whole tries to support software plug-ins (Unreal 4 Engine, Unity 3D and HeroEngine), input hardware (like Sixsense and Leap) and other VR devices that range from Vrvana’s Totem headset and Oculus’ DK 2 hardware.
Current update is that the newest version of Razer VR device gets an OLED display with plans made for available modular faceplates that can make building own upgrades possible. This OSVR Hacker Dev Kit scheduled for June release targets mainly at developers and hackers more than normal people.

GOOGLE CARDBOARD:

GOOGLE CARDBOARD
If Samsung’s Gear VR is to bring virtual reality to mobile than Google’s Cardboard gets mobile virtual reality to the masses. It of course could not be considered the most impressive piece of hardware as it is entirely made of cardboard that surly looks a bit crazy. But cobbling it together from a smartphone is sure to offer a tantalizing taste of virtual reality. The fact is that Google is trying to give virtual reality its neat and most accessible tool that is made using cheap and grooved paper to convert nonbelievers. Though not Oculus Rift headset, Google is trying to put anyone with a smartphone and $25 (for its Cardboard initiative) into the world of VR thus getting a huge role to pay in VR field.

Microsoft HoloLens:

Microsoft HoloLens
Of all VR devices available, this Microsoft’s HoloLens is something that is entirely different. It is an augmented-reality device instead. It superimposes images, texts and objects onto the field of vision, meaning seeing through a Skype conversation that is hovering a few feet over the user’s head. Or for that case, strolling the surface of Mars in a room.
The “Holographic Processing Unit” is put in a box that hangs around the user’s neck that also has an old-school power cord. Though not too heavy is for sure to give its users the feel of dragging a bit of machinery around. But this does not seem to be a matter to worry once the device is put on. The HoloLens prototype though defines to be more streamlined than other VR devices, still looks like a bulky – gaudy thing. It appears like a pair of heavy ski goggles. So, this losing point for style is not like the Samsung Gear VR.
The point where this HoloLens differs from other virtual reality devices is that it does not entirely take over senses but enables one to decide what is mapped and what is visible.
