Evena’s Eyes-On Glasses can see Through the Skin

Evena’s Eyes-On Glasses is partnering venture of Evena Medical and Epson
It is well known to everyone as how Google Glass received press coverage for its futuristic form factor and fictitious, consumer-friendly applications. With the Google Glass users can see emails and maps right from its display. But how well could something of same technology be used to see through ones skin? Well, the answer for this is the new product that was launched by Evena Medical – an imaging technology firm based at Silicon Valley in partnership with Epson.
Named the Evena’s Eyes-On Glasses, the device allows medical professionals to see through their patient’s skin to more precisely and easily locate veins for IV treatments. As boosted by Evena, the product seems to be one of the first of its kind smart glasses available commercially used in healthcare applications.
Evena Medical being a head in the development of high-quality and high-definition imaging for accurate, fast and precise venous access introduced this Eyes-On™ Glasses wearable System to facilitate nurses at the bedside to exactly see through a patient’s skin to the  vasculature beneath. With these glasses on, nurses can easily see through and access veins that are otherwise hard to locate.
Though this might sound like the X-ray, the system is a version of a confirmed vascular imaging technology. The Eyes-On bears the technology into a head-mounted display helping medical workers and nurses for better vein detection.
Evena’s Eyes-On Glasses is the first vein detection device
The original design of the Eyes-On integrates multi-spectral 3D imaging along with wireless connectivity.  This point-of-care Eyes-On system is considered the first vein detection device that delivers anatomically accurate, clear and real-time imaging in a wearable that is easy to use being a hands-free and cart-free system. Utilizing the Epson Moverio “smart glasses” technology platform combined with its unique “look-through” capabilities, the Eyes-On system offers the first healthcare applications of smart glasses that are available commercially on a global scale. The Moverio smart glasses enables seamless blend of both digital and physical worlds thus making it possible for exciting new applications for commercial enterprises as well as consumers alike.
Evena’s Eyes-On Glasses allow digital storage through which nurses could document and distribute patients’ vein patency throughout their hospital stay. The telemedicine capability of the device also helps in sharing images remotely. Also, the system can interface with hospital electronic medical records systems for easy documentation.
Frank Ball, Evena’s CEO in a statement said that according to studies to locate and access a vein about 40% of IV starts need multiple attempts. By doing this it not only wastes nursing time that is valuable but also makes the therapy get delayed ultimately making the patient dissatisfied and discomfort.  With this Evena’s Eyes-On Glasses which enables the medical worker to see and locate the veins, accessing the veins becomes quick and easy even in challenging clinical situations.
On the whole this seems to be smart glass technology’s refreshing application and of course a great move from the usual blend of applications that have been created for products such as Google Glass.
