News Feed Algorithm of Facebook Prioritized

If you are a keen Facebook user, you are about to see more content from your friends, family and CLOSE ones. The social networking site  has changed its News Feed Algorithm  to prioritize  content created by people you know.It will mean that posts from brands and news organisations will be lesser, while photo galleries and status updates from your contacts will be pushed to the fore.
Facebook has announced that the News Feed Algorithm has been updated. The updated News Feed will now show you content that matters the most. The News Feed is expected to give you a BALANCED mix of updates. The updates from friends and public figures, publishers, business and community organizations along with variety of other circles. The balance will be quite different for user to user on what the user is interested in learning everyday.

The Following updates in the News Feed Algorithm is expected:

  •  Improving the experience of USERS who don’t have a lot of content to see.  Facebook is relaxing the earlier rule that would not let you see multiple posts from the same source in a row. This is the first expected update.
  • The second update makes sure that the content that is posted by your friends that are most important to you will surface on top. Posts that includes photos, status, videos and link updates of your close circles will be higher in the News Feed so that there is less possibility that you will be missing the updates, Even in the case that you are looking to interact with Facebook pages that you have liked, you may view that content as well. Facebook has tried to BALANCE out the content for each user accordingly.
  • The THIRD update  is related to the interactions that your friends post. Many users have complained that seeing stories of their friends liking or commenting on a post are placed lower in the News Feed or are not visible at all.

How does the new UPDATED News Feed Algorithm affect Facebook Pages?
Facebook has said that the distribution will vary. The distribution is said to vary depending on the user’s audience and posting activity. The post reach and referral activity is more likely to decline if there are limited interactions. So it is recommended that Facebook Pages should CONTINUE to post content that the user’s following the page find meaningful.

 News Feed Algorithm:Preventing Spam

In ORDER to prevent spam from spreading, Facebook had begun demoting content through click-bait headlines. Click-baiting is when a post has been published by a publisher through links and headlines that encourages users to click on the content. The post is such that it makes users click the links without knowing much information about what the user is expected to view. Facebook then had DECIDED to surface timely stories to the top of the News Feed. But the changes brought about a drop in organic reach.
When questioned why Facebook PAGES were seeing a decrease in organic traffic…
MARK Zuckerberg, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder said,
” As time goes on, people are just sharing more things on Facebook. So each PERSON who is consuming content in their News Feed — they might read 100 stories from their friends and Pages a day. And as their friends share more content and as they follow more Pages and as those Pages share more content, there’s just more competition.”

News Feed Algorithm: Bottom line (#Source Forbes)

Facebook has over 1.4 billion users so the post publishers LARGELY depend on the referral traffic from the social network. Facebook is also the primary source of news consumption for younger audiences for connecting to each other, which is why publishers are forced to adapt to News Feed changes. Facebook generates a majority of its revenue through advertising, which includes sponsored posts from brands that want to receive additional traffic. Ultimately, Facebook’s users control what they want to see on their News Feed by adding friends, “liking” Pages and engaging with the content.
