Skype was the hero of instant messaging but with the launch of smartphones, the whole world of messaging flipped upside down. Instant messengers like Whatsapp, iMessages and Facebook messenger started ruling the messaging world. Skype could no longer hold the previous glamour.
Microsoft released a revised version for Skype called Skype 6.0 for Android and iOS. The user interface has been updated in the new version and the app now focuses on being more natural and perceptive.
The company is implementing the iOS style of navigation. The buttons at the bottom of the app visibly mark out sections and Microsoft has done the same on the Android version. There are swipe gestures on the iOS version to help the users to make speedy calls or mute and erase conversations. The interface is basically the same within the chats, with an attachment icon to let the users add photos, location and video messages to a conversation.
