With just the press of a button the R-Mitra app works both online and offline in SMS mode by making use of the helpline 56161. As a female commuter is in any situation of danger they can press the emergency button on the R-Mitra app. This will immediately send the identification and location of the commuter and sent to the nearest Railway Police Force Inspector, who may take the adequate response. The next two stations will be alerted. This sort of enables a real-time tracking.
Further this R-Mitra app can be also used to send the photo of the assaulter immediately. The app also allows communication with the  railway authorities through the call and message option.  This app is currently available only for Android users.  This facility will however be extending to the iOS phones soon.  Also this facility is only available for suburban train passengers of the Eastern Railway currently, it is expected to extend to the Southern Railways soon.
