Microsoft WiFi, a new service by Microsoft to give its users hassle-free Wi-Fi connectivity
Microsoft WiFi is a new service believed being worked by Microsoft to provide Wi-Fi connectivity to people around the world. On confirming the same a Microsoft spokesperson reported to VentureBeat that Microsoft WiFi is the company’s new service being worked upon to offer hassle-free Wi-Fi to millions around the world.  With no further details revealed the spokesperson assured to share more details when available.
VentureBeat on reporting the news denotes that this service by Microsoft was first spotted by a Twitter user who lurched upon microsoftwifi.com that had details regarding the new service. According to the report, eligible users are to be given access to free Wi-Fi suppliers present around the world and the service apps being made downloadable on Windows Phone, Windows, iOS, Mac and Android. To know about the hotspots nearby location, the app itself comes intact with an ‘interactive map’.
The website at the time being spotted with Microsoft WiFi details had the following statement,
“Don’t waste time filling forms with personal information or managing different carriers to get connected. Sign in once and you are done: you will automatically be connected to a vast range of WiFi providers around the world,”

However, the website was then taken down by Microsoft with a ‘coming soon’ mark providing no more additional details. So it can be understood that this service is to offer access to hassle-free Internet around the world making sure that users are online always with not taking into account of their location.
IS This Service Available To Everyone?
The sad part of this service is that it would not be available to everyone or that it is not going to be a free service at least to start with. As explained in the webpage, for downloading and using the app, users need to be ‘eligible’ although versions for individuals and businesses are to be available similarly. If this is something new to you then you should be aware of Skype WiFi which is already being operated by Microsoft.
Skype WiFi is a related service that provides users access to about two million Wi-Fi hotspots around the globe while payment being through Skype Credit. Might be this new service would replace Skype WiFi allowing it to expand massively as Microsoft on its site had claimed to grant its users in around 130 countries with easy access to about ten million hotspots. The main pitch is to focus users in avoiding credit cards fumbling and prolonged sign up processes while on the go.
So the expectation is that Microsoft WiFi at its launch is to be available only to
  • Active Skype WiFi subscribers
  • Employees of organizations that has Microsoft Office 365 for Enterprise
  • Customers offered with Microsoft’s special WiFi offer.
Though Microsoft WiFi looks to be the same idea (a pay-as-you-go service automatically connecting people to free public Wi-Fi hotspots) it appears to be more than just being a rebranding. It targeting bigger audience of ten million Wi-Fi hotspots in about 130 countries explains its plans. This is for now as provided by the company, would update when there is more information.
